Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer 352 Pages This book...had me in a love/hate relationship with it. I LOVED the characters, storyline, and the villain's "touch her you die" kind of trope. The ending even got me. This book took you on a story of how the villain was not always the villain, and that life can turn you into something you never thought you would be. It follows a deep hatred from the King and the Villain Trystan. It has dragons and a mole that infiltrated the Villain's network. Even the most adorable frog named Kingsley, holds up signs to communicate in the most blunt ways. It had everything I enjoyed reading about.  Except, you could tell the two main characters were falling in love. You could feel the passion and love these characters had for each other. And nothing. Feelings were never expressed to each other, and they only shared one kiss because it helped them out of a bind with the guards. I love reading a book and rooting for the cha...
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer 454 pages Personal Opinion, this book was kinda mid.  I think the first book was so good and then I started this one expecting it to be just as good. The book bounced between chapters of Scarlet's POV and Cinder's POV. Scarlet was just hitchhiking with another character Wolf to find her grandmother who had been kidnapped. Cinder was aboard a spacecraft with another felon and had an identity crisis the whole book.  I didn't hate it, but it definitely had that " filler episode" kind of vibe the whole book.  I still plan to read the third book because from what I googled, the third gets better. We will see.
Food To Die For - by Amy Bruni 288 Pages This was a fascinating read. Not only is it a cookbook but also has history of the inspiration for each recipe.  I found myself just reading the history and hauntings of each building and leafing over the recipes. There were a few legends in there like The Stanley Hotel. The one that inspired Stephen King's The Shining when he stayed there. Lizzie Bordons B&B, which I learned she never lived in after she axed her family. She resided at a home in Maplecroft, allegedly you can communicate and feel her spirit more there. Hermann-Grima House in New Orleans, in October they close up the house and put it in "mourning mode" so you can experience what it would have been like for a service back when. Of which other spirits have been known to come out and experience it with the living. I found myself captivated by each place. The recipes in it are definitely more on the interesting side. Mostly due to reading all these gorry details ...
Cinder by: Marissa Meyer Pages: 400   I enjoyed this book so much that I read the first book (Cinder) in one sitting and then started book two (Scarlett) the same day. The story is pretty much exactly what you would think. A cyborg/futuristic/dystopian fairytale playing off of Cinderella. One of my favorite things about this book is unlike the actual Cinderella where a fairy godmother swooped in and saved her. Cinder is alone.   She has to learn that it is just her who can fix the problem, no one is going to come in and hide all the parts of her that she was ashamed of or give her some glorious dress to attend the ball. She dusted off her grease (she is a mechanic) and took action herself. I love a fairytale as much as the next but I also think it is important to see a more realistic side.  I do love that this is a multi-book series. By the end of book one, I had so many unanswered questions.
A good girl's guide to murder by Holly Jackson  Pages: 448 I started this book because I love comparing books to their shows/movies. When I heard this was going to be a series Netflix was putting out from BBC I had to get a jump on the book first.  Now the book was good in a separate way, which I think I enjoyed a bit more. It was much slower and grabbed my interest right away because it was almost written like a who-done it. Pages were police reports and interview Q&As. Alongside regular chapters. You felt like you were solving it along with Pip.  I won't spoil too much for the individuals who have this on their TBR list, but wow. That outcome. The poor girl in the attic and Barney definitely did not deserve what happened, and honestly kinda pissed me off.  I have started book 2 and can't wait to watch each character grow and meet new ones.
